Frosty

It is finally starting to get a bit nippy here in the Bluegrass state. Far from what I hear being grumbled by those back home (Chicago), but if you talk to locals here you'd think the world stops moving at 30 degrees.
I figured we'd take a break from warm and sunny India (it was 75 on Dec. 1 btw) and revisit good ol' BG,KY.

And its not quite snow, but I have woken up to a frost covered truck the past few days and snapped a few while it was warming up/defrosting.




Not sure how many times I will be seeing this building again. Mass Media and Technology Hall- home of WKU PJ.

Market Days

On our last day in Hyderabad we finally had some time to wander the town a bit. A small group of us headed over to a what I think was the Indian version of a flea market and did some Christmas shopping.


This was the little restaurant that was there. They had glass bottle Coke aka heaven. Regina Durkan was one of our two man video team that I am sure pulled more than one all nighter on the trip.

Chowmahalla palace

One of the banquets that we went to was at the 200 year old Chowmahalla palace. It is actually a 4 palaces hence "Chow" which means 4 and "Mahalat" which means palaces (thanks Wikipedia). The first frame is from the drive there through the city of Hyderabad. I was tempted to ask the driver to stop and let me out, but that idea got shot down rather quickly.

This was one of the first times on the trip I had to really just kinda shoot whatever and not have to worry about shooting anyone special so I just had some fun with it. There sure was no shortage of photographic eye candy.

Building India

The buildings in India had so much more texture to them than they do here. That fake weathered look that we try to create with some of our structures pales in comparison to the character that is the walls of their buildings.

This was on the drive from the airport to our hotel the first day. I am amazed it is even sharp being shot from a moving car with such little light.
There were men's hostel's everywhere. This one happened to be right next to our hotel.

Party in India

Finally started sorting through the 85 gigs of photos from the trip. Here are a few to ponder...

We ate dinner one night at this restaurant right next to our hotel. We got there expecting a decent place and then they take us up to the rooftop overlooking the city. Candles, incense, and good food (or so I am told. My mouth went numb after the first bite.), and a great view. It was a great introduction to what would be home for the next few days.
One of the events of the conference was a dinner party at a local golf course. Yes Dad, I went to a golf course in India, and no, we did not get to play. Anyway, the even was supposed to be like a quick sampling of the culture with food and dance from around the country for all the dignitaries to take part in.




Oh the colors! Loved it.

From our morning walk around town and the last two are from a dinner that was held after day 2 of the conference.

...more India pictures are coming but I got backed up with classwork today and didn't get a chance to go through them yet :( My apologies, but with any luck you will see some tomorrow :)

Never have I ever

Never have I wanted to stay in Chicago more.

We have flown from Hyderabad to Mumbai and Frankfort before landing in Chicago.
Shouts of, "We are almost home!" ring out from my friends, yet... I am home.

I half joke with an instructor when I say, "Leave me here, I will meet you back at school in January."

Every fiber of my body resists the trek down the walkway to the plane that is taking me "home."

Thoughts of loved ones mere miles away seem to taunt the tear drops from my eyes as I take my seat.
Is it the place I love or the people in it?

I can't be sure of the answer but, I am sure...Never have I wanted to stay in Chicago more.

Conference day 2

Yesterday, today and tomorrow look to be pretty full with speakers which means poduim shots. WHOO! Here is a sampling from yesterday before today starts.

Winner of the Golden Pen of Freedom which is an award given to someone fighting for the freedom of the press. This year it went to Najam Sethi, Editor-in-Chief of The Friday Times and The Daily Times in Pakistan.
Paul Jansen, CEO of SPH Search at Singapore Press Holdings, tells the World Newspaper Congress in Hyderabad how SPH rejected Google and built its own search service implemented across all its online platforms.

India's president, Smt. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, is scheduled to make an apperance and speech today at the World Newspaper congress.
